The Commercial attaché in Washington participated in the meetings of the Iraqi energy delegation, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, which were held in Houston, Texas, USA. The meetings were sponsored by the US Chamber of Commerce and hosted by the Baker Institute for Studies at Rice University.
The statement of the Ministry’s media office quoted the Director General of the Department, Riyadh Al-Hashemi, as saying that these meetings come within the framework of following up on the outcomes of the Prime Minister’s visit to the United States of America last April, to enhance cooperation in the fields of oil, gas, and energy with major American companies.
The statement indicated that the meetings focused on discussing the investment opportunities available in Iraq and the challenges facing American companies entering the Iraqi market.
The statement stated that the Iraqi delegation stressed during the meetings the Iraqi government’s keenness to open up to American companies due to their advanced technology and great capabilities, while emphasizing the importance of developing strategic projects that enhance energy investments between the two countries.
