Documents Legalization

The Iraqi Commercial Office legalizes only Certificates of Origin (CO’s) and Commercial Invoices (CI’s). Other documents can be legalized via our General Consular Services.


Important Notices:

Certificates of Origin must include: Product name, Production Company, Location of Origin, Freight Forwarder, Importer, Shipping Method (Air/Sea), and Port Location.

Commercial Invoices must include: Product Name, Type, Quantity, Price Per Unit, Total Amount, and Importer’s Name & Address.
Both documents must include the final destination in Iraq and the US Company’s name, address, and contact information.

Foreign Products:
For foreign products, provide the original CO from the production country and a new CO from the US Company or an official letter.
For mixed-origin products, attach a letter stating the production details.

Steps for Legalizing CO’s & CI’s:

Step 1:
1. Legalize/stamp CO’s and CI’s by the local Chamber of Commerce and Public Notary.
2. Legalize by the Secretary of State where the documents originated.

Step 2:
Deliver the documents to the Iraqi Commercial Attaché Office:

Supporting Documents:

The Attaché Office may request additional supporting documents (e.g., L.C., contracts).
– Attach photocopies of each page of CO’s & CI’s.
– For food or drug exports, attach health certificates from the relevant US Government Agency.
– For cigarette exports, provide a letter from the manufacturer and proof of the importer’s authorization.

Submission Guidelines:

Submit CO’s & CI’s together.
– When submitting individually, attach a certified copy of the other document.
– For mail submissions, include a pre-paid return envelope and photocopies of all documents.
– The office does not legalize “Proforma Invoices.”

Fees:

Attach a money order payable to the “Iraqi Commercial Attache’/Embassy of Iraq” ($100 for each CO and CI). Note: Iraqi Commercial Office accept only Money Orders.
